This piece is made of Terre de Fer, a durable French ironstone known for its strength and elegant finish. The delicate anemone motif, typical of the Belle Époque period, is beautifully detailed. Around the rim, graceful botanical lines and small floral transfer decorations create a refined and decorative frame. The “CREMONE” name refers to the pattern series. It is a classic design from the late 19th to early 20th century, known for its elegant transfer print and fine line decoration. This series is quite popular in the antique market. Finding a large plate like this in such good condition is rather rare. Creil et Montereau is one of the well-known historic ceramic manufacturers in France. The Creil factory was founded in 1797, in the town of Creil, north of Paris. Inspired by popular English ceramics of the time such as creamware and ironstone, the factory began producing durable and practical tableware. At the same time, there was another pottery factory in Montereau-Fault-Yonne, which also became successful during the 19th century. Around 1840, the two factories merged and became Creil et Montereau. The company grew quickly and became one of the largest ceramic manufacturers in France. From the 19th century to the early 20th century, their tableware spread widely across French households. Mirabeau was a French politician and one of the key figures in the early years of the French Revolution, known for supporting a constitutional monarchy. This piece was likely created in tribute to him, reflecting the spirit of the time. Nevers has been producing pottery since the late 16th century and is one of the most historic and well-loved faience centres in France.
