【A Beautiful Large Plate of Creil Montereau/<美品>クレイユモントローのアネモネ柄の大きなプレート"CREMONE"シリーズ】
19世紀後半〜20世紀初頭、Creil et Montereau(クレイユ・モントロー)の高い技術で作られたTerre De Fer(テールドフェール＝強化陶器)の”アネモネ”柄の大皿です。
ベル・エポック期ならではの洗練されたアネモネの繊細な描写とリムに施された植物文様の綺麗なラインと小花の転写装飾と大皿の存在感には圧巻です。
”CREMONE”シリーズはパターン名で、19世紀後半〜20世紀初頭に作られた洗練された転写プリントに繊細なライン装飾が入った上品でクラシックなシリーズ。
このシリーズは、アンティーク市場でもとても人気があり、大きな損傷もなくコンディションが良好な状態はかなり稀でとても希少な一枚です。
クレイユ・モントローはフランスの中でも人気の名窯。
◎1797年、パリの北にある町 ”Creil” で創業。
当時イギリスで流行していた creamware や ironstone の影響を受けた、丈夫で実用的な食器を作り始めました。
◎Montereau（モントロー窯）
一方で、Montereau-Fault-Yonne にも陶器工場があり、こちらも19世紀に人気の窯でした。
◎合併（1840年頃）
この Creil窯とMontereau窯が合併し、Creil et Montereau（クレイユモントロー）窯 になります。9世紀フランスで大成功を納め、合併後はフランス最大級の陶器メーカーになりました。
19世紀〜20世紀初めにかけて家庭用食器としてフランス中に広まりました。
当時フランスメーカーには珍しく、クレイユ・モントローは イギリス陶器の影響をかなり受けていたようです。
特に”Wedgwood”の影響が大きく、イギリスっぽい柄が多いのも特徴です。
テールドフェールは、陶器でも磁器でもない独特の質感で半磁器に近いフランスの強化陶器です。
主成分は、陶土と長石、石英の配合によって陶器より硬くて丈夫で磁器に近い白さが出るそう。滑らかで艶のある仕上がりになる透明釉を使用し、装飾品としての美しさを引き立てています。
時代によっては鉛釉を混ぜていたこともあるようです。
絵柄ですが、、花や木々、鳥など自然なものをモチーフとした転写プリントの装飾が多くバリエーションも豊富なのが特徴です。
器としてはもちろん、美術品のように飾って楽しむのも素敵です。

A Beautiful Large Plate by Creil et Montereau – “CREMONE” Series / クレイユモントロー アネモネ柄の大きなプレート
A beautiful large plate from Creil et Montereau, made in the late 19th to early 20th century.
This piece is made of Terre de Fer, a durable French ironstone known for its strength and elegant finish.
The delicate anemone motif, typical of the Belle Époque period, is beautifully detailed.
Around the rim, graceful botanical lines and small floral transfer decorations create a refined and decorative frame.
The “CREMONE” name refers to the pattern series.
It is a classic design from the late 19th to early 20th century, known for its elegant transfer print and fine line decoration.
This series is quite popular in the antique market.
Finding a large plate like this in such good condition is rather rare.
Creil et Montereau is one of the well-known historic ceramic manufacturers in France.
The Creil factory was founded in 1797, in the town of Creil, north of Paris.
Inspired by popular English ceramics of the time such as creamware and ironstone, the factory began producing durable and practical tableware.
At the same time, there was another pottery factory in Montereau-Fault-Yonne, which also became successful during the 19th century.
Around 1840, the two factories merged and became Creil et Montereau.
The company grew quickly and became one of the largest ceramic manufacturers in France.
From the 19th century to the early 20th century, their tableware spread widely across French households.
Unlike many French makers of the time, Creil-Montereau was strongly influenced by English ceramics, especially Wedgwood.
This is one reason why some of their patterns have a slightly English feel.
Also,Terre de Fer is a strong French earthenware, somewhere between pottery and porcelain.
It is made from a blend of clay, feldspar and quartz, making it harder and more durable than ordinary pottery, with a soft white tone close to porcelain.
A clear glaze gives it a smooth and gently glossy finish.
In some periods, lead glaze was also used.
Many pieces feature transfer-printed designs inspired by flowers, trees and birds, with a wide range of variations.
A beautiful piece not only for serving, but also lovely displayed as decorative art.
