19世紀のFaïence(=ファイアンス)のプレート。
黒のダブルラインと共に可愛らしい黄色が映えるミモザのようなお花が散りばめられていて春らしい美しい一枚です。
リム部分は薔薇の花びらのようなフォルムで、ファイアンスらしい丸みのある佇まい。
錫釉と職人の絵付け技術、リムのデザインには圧巻です。
ファイアンスとは..
錫釉（すずゆう）をかけた陶器のことです。普通の陶器の上に、白い錫釉のコーティングをしてその上に絵付けをしたもの。表面は 白くてやわらかい質感で、少し 厚みがあり、手描き装飾が多いという特徴があります。
ファイアンスはもともとイタリアから来ています。
ファイアンスの技術はかなり古く、もともとは9世紀頃中東・イスラム圏で発展しました。14~15世紀中東からイタリアへ、Faenza（ファエンツァ）で有名になり、17~18世紀にフランス・ヨーロッパへ広がりました。
フランスでは、Nevers/Rouen/Moustiers‑Sainte‑Marieが特に有名です。
17〜18世紀には、ヨーロッパの食卓を彩る重要な陶器になりました。

【French Faience Plate, 19th Century】
A beautiful 19th-century French faience plate.
The rim is decorated with a black double line, while small yellow flowers—resembling mimosa—are scattered across the surface, creating a charming and spring-like atmosphere.
The softly shaped rim, reminiscent of rose petals, gives the plate the gentle and rounded character typical of traditional faience.
The combination of tin glaze, hand-painted decoration, and the elegant rim design highlights the craftsmanship of the period.
About Faience
Faience is a type of tin-glazed earthenware pottery. A white tin glaze is applied over the ceramic body, creating a soft white surface that is ideal for hand-painted decoration. It is often slightly thick and has a warm, handcrafted character.
The technique originally developed in the Middle East around the 9th century and later spread to Italy, particularly in the city of Faenza, from which the name “faience” is derived. From there it became popular throughout Europe.
In France, important centers of faience production included Nevers, Rouen, and Moustiers-Sainte-Marie.
During the 17th and 18th centuries, faience became an important decorative ceramic used on European dining tables.
