ノワール(Noir)は黒
赤土の素地に白い釉薬と裏側に茶の釉薬がかけられているのが特徴です。
フランスの北、ノルマンディー地方のルーアンで作られるようになり、フランス各地に広がったようです。
その美しさ・佇まいに魅了され世界中にコレクターがいるほどです。

【Cul Noir Faience Plate with Polychrome Floral Decoration / 19th Century】
A beautifully painted cul noir floral plate from Nevers Faience Manufactory.
Cul noir literally means “black bottom” in French — referring to the dark glaze applied to the back. Typically, these pieces are made from red clay, covered with a white glaze on the front and a brown glaze on the reverse. The style is said to have first developed in Rouen in northern France before spreading to other regions.
This example features soft yet vibrant floral decoration, hand-painted in lovely, balanced colours.
Cul noir faience has long attracted collectors around the world for its distinctive character and quiet beauty.
