【19th Century Provancal Terracotta Water Jug-Large Glazed Earthenware/南仏19世紀プロヴァンスの大きな水差し】
テラコッタ色の美しい水差し
テラコッタのオレンジ色の釉薬は、プロヴァンス地方(南フランス)でよく見られます。
また、素焼きの部分が見えるのも、南フランスの素朴な伝統スタイルです。
19世紀の南フランスでは、その地域で採れる粘土(鉄分を多く含む赤土で粒子が粗いのが特徴)をそのまま使うのが一般的でした。
そんな自然のままに近い土が南仏らしさにつながっているようです。
丸みを帯びた豊かなフォルムは、かつて農家の台所で飲料水を蓄えたり、ワインを貯蓄するために作られていたようです。
インテリアオブジェとしても空間に深みを与える存在感のある1品です。
＊水漏れテストとして、1～2時間水を張って漏れがないか確認済です。水漏れはありませんでしたが、古いお品ですのでインナーカップのご使用をお勧めいたします。

【19th Century Provencal Terracotta Water Jug – Large Glazed Earthenware】
A beautiful terracotta coloured water jug from Provence in the south of France.
The warm orange glaze is often seen in pottery from the Provence region.
You can also see areas of unglazed clay, which is part of the rustic traditional style of southern France.
In the 19th century, it was common in southern France to use the local clay as it was.
This clay is rich in iron and has a naturally coarse texture.
This natural, earthy material is one of the things that gives southern French pottery its distinctive character.
The rounded and generous shape was once made for everyday use in farmhouse kitchens, used to store drinking water or sometimes wine.
It also makes a wonderful decorative object, adding warmth and depth to any space.
＊Water leakage test:
The jug was filled with water for 1–2 hours to check for leaks. No leakage was found. However, as this is an old piece, we recommend using an inner container if you plan to use it with water.
