【French Large Oval Plate By Gien/フランスジアン窯の大きなオーバルプレート】
フランスのジアン窯のテールドフェール製の”ANNAM(アンナム)シリーズの大きなオーバルプレートです。
ジアン窯は、1821年創業のフランス王室御用達陶器メーカーとして有名です。
イギリス人のA.Hall氏が創設者で、イギリスの高い陶器技術をフランスに持って来られたとされています。素材は主に、Terr De Fer(テールドフェール)を使用しています。
テールドフェールは、陶器でも磁器でもない独特の質感で半磁器に近いフランスの強化陶器です。
主成分は、陶土と長石、石英の配合によって陶器より硬くて丈夫で磁器に近い白さが出るそう。滑らかで艶のある仕上がりになる透明釉を使用し、装飾品としての美しさを引き立てています。
時代によっては鉛釉を混ぜていたこともあるようです。
絵柄ですが、、花や木々、鳥など自然なものをモチーフとした転写プリントの装飾が多くバリエーションも豊富なのが特徴です。
このシリーズは、当時フランスが植民地支配をしていたベトナム北部の旧地名”アンナム”から名付けられたようです。柄は、植物をモチーフに抽象化された幾何学模様。
時代や文化の象徴を感じさせる力強い印象的なデザインです。
東洋風の少しアジアの雰囲気も感じられますね。
現在もジアン窯は製造中ですが、19世紀のアンティークは特に人気が高いようです。
少し大きめのプレートで、複数人のホームパーティなどお洒落に演出してくそうな美しい１枚。

【French Large Oval Plate – Gien】
A large oval plate from the “ANNAM” series by Faïencerie de Gien.
Gien was founded in 1821 and became known as a supplier to the French royal household.
It was established by an Englishman, A. Hall, who brought English ceramic techniques to France.Terre de Fer was one of the main materials used.
Terre de Fer is a strong French earthenware, somewhere between pottery and porcelain.
It is made from a blend of clay, feldspar and quartz, making it harder and more durable than ordinary pottery, with a soft white tone close to porcelain.
A clear glaze gives it a smooth and gently glossy finish.
In some periods, lead glaze was also used.
Many pieces feature transfer-printed designs inspired by flowers, trees and birds, with a wide range of variations.
This series was named after “Annam,” the former name of northern Vietnam during the period of French colonial rule.
The pattern is based on plant motifs, expressed in abstract geometric forms.
It has a strong yet elegant presence, reflecting the spirit of its time.
There is also a subtle Asian feeling in the design.
Gien is still producing ceramics today, but 19th century antiques are especially loved.
A slightly larger plate, beautiful for serving at a small gathering or creating a special table setting.

Overall in good condition. There is age-related wear, but for a piece from the late 19th century, there are no noticeable chips or cracks. A lovely example for its age.
